THURSDAYS IN SEPTEMBER AT 9 PM, SEPT. 11, 18 and 25
A captivating three-part series exploring the history, legacy and enduring charm of eight of Ohio's Lake Erie lighthouses
and the passionate individuals working to preserve them.

Lighthouses have always done more than just guide ships through rough waters; they've sparked imagination, stood as symbols of hope, and become quiet keepers of history. Have you heard of the lighthouse that mysteriously disappeared? Or the tale of a ghost cat said to wander through a former caretaker’s cottage turned museum? These stories are just the beginning of what makes the lighthouses along Lake Erie truly special.

On this journey, we’ll explore some of the lake’s most fascinating lights, including the last wooden pierhead lighthouse on Lake Erie, still standing strong after more than a century. We’ll visit one that’s now a research hub, helping scientists keep an eye on the health of the lake and sharing its beauty with everyone who stops by. Another has been restored/reimagined as a private summer home, blending history, creativity, and a whole lot of heart.

From Fairport and Fairport West to Lorain, Marblehead, Port Clinton, South Bass Island, Toledo, and Vermilion – each lighthouse has a unique story. Their designs, their purposes, and the people who care for them demonstrate how much these places continue to matter today.

Along the way, we’ll meet the historians, preservationists, museum curators and lighthouse conservancy members who have brought these places to life. Their passion keeps the lights burning, not only for ships, but for all of us who love the stories, scenery, and mystery of the lake. Whether you're into maritime history, love old architecture, or just want to explore something different, Illuminating the Great Lakes: Lighthouse of Lake Erie tells stories you won’t soon forget.
