"Northwest Ohio Park Moment” spots will debut during the premiere of Ken Burns' newest film series, "The National Parks: America's Best Idea." The project features nine parks and refuges in Northwest and West Central Ohio, and highlights Perry's Victory and International Peace Monument, a national memorial.
The parks and refuges to be featured in "Parks of Northwest Ohio," include:
Perry's Victory and International Peace Monument - This national memorial, operated by the National Parks Service, commemorates the victory of Master Commandant Oliver Hazard Perry over the British Fleet on September 10, 1813, during the War of 1812. It also celebrates the lasting peace between the United States of America, Canada and Great Britain. Restoration work will require the memorial to be closed to visitors in mid- October 2009 for an extended period of time; the visitors center will be open.

Operated by the Wood County Park District, the retreat is popular among Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
