The move to digital broadcasting creates entirely new
forms of broadcasting, all of which benefit our viewers,

says Pat Fitzgerald, WBGU-PBS General Manager.
Our move to digital means the programs you already enjoy
will come to you with an overall better picture and better sound quality. Additionally, much more content can be sent over a digital television channel than over current analog channel,
so our viewers will have increased programming options,
Fitzgerald explains.

High-Defintion Television's (HD or HDTV) when compared to Standard-Defintiion Television
(SDTV or SD) excels in three different areas: sharper imagery, expanded viewing area, and
crisper audio. An example of the difference in sharpness is illustrated below.

For some television viewers, the conversion to digital broadcasting has already happened.
Some have purchased a new digital television with a built-in digital tuner.  Hooked up to an
antenna they can regularly view WBGU-PBS' digital program channels for free by receiving
the station's over-the-air digital signal. These new digital sets do not have to be expensive
HDTV models and are available in 27-inch versions for $250 or less.

Older analog TV sets connected to a digital tuner or converter box and an antenna can also
receive the new digital signals. Others may be viewing those same digital channels on an analog
TV set via a digital cable service such as Time Warner Cable that is retransmitting all four of
WBGU-PBS' different digital program channels.
