10¢ a Ticket The Stories and Glories of Old Amusement Parks

This area played a key role in the developing amusement park industry.
Viewers will be surprised to learn that this area of the state was home to
at least 21 amusement parks, some dating back to the 1880's.

Mc Beth Park rollercoaster"I was stunned to find out that there were so many amusement parks in the area," says WBGU-PBS Producer/Director Tom Zapiecki, who also
produced Ketchup: King of Condiments and
directed Marcia Adams: Change of Heart. "I had
no idea going into the project. We estimated that there were seven, perhaps eight amusement parks, at the most.
"

Once again, WBGU-PBS collaborated with area historical societies to capture
the living history of these treasured sites that spanned across Allen, Auglaize, Mercer, Crawford, Richland, Hancock, Logan, Lucas, Ottawa, Seneca and
Wood counties.

"Many people have good memories, and we are
looking to bring them back.
"

The Lucas County Maumee Valley Historical
Society, the Putnam County Historical Society,
the Henry County Historical Society, the Fostoria Area Historical Society and Sauder Village were involved in the initial planning for the documentary.

The Wood County Historical Society, the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor,
the Mercer County Historical Society, the Hancock Historical Museum and
the Allen County Museum all contributed historical materials. Viewers also
shared personal photographs and video footage of the parks.
