Throughout the year, visitors to the
Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio, find a treasure trove of history not only about President Hayes, but also
about life in general in America in the1800s. This was home for the 19th President of the United States and his wife Lucy Ware Webb after presidency and until his death in 1893.

The Hayes Presidential Center: Revisiting The Past documentary explores the 25-acre
Spiegel Grove estate which also includes a tour of President Hayes’ 31-room Victorian home, the tombs of the President and his wife Lucy, a carriage house, hiking trails, gardens, library, gift shop, and other historical sites. Many historical furnishings, paintings, and books are explored in the special. Some of these
include: a portrait of Lucy in her wedding dress, Lucy’s sewing machine, Victorian era toys, dressing tables, and much more.

A special re-enactment and narration of skirmishes that took place during the Civil War are included in this documentary. This program also features encampments with goods to be bought representing items from the Civil War era.

A visit to the Hayes Presidential Center will take you back in time while it educates on the rich history of northwest Ohio in the late 1800s and the fascinating story of America’s 19th President, President Rutherford B. Hayes.
